So I’ve just watched the new Pillar Talk video and I wanted to clarify something that was said to ensure expectations, mine mainly, are tempered properly.
Around the 18:08 mark Tony says the following,…and so now, for the foreseeable future, you may not be able to put a gargantuan number in the exact same area, but that doesn’t really matter with 3.6. What really matters, I think, is I go to the asteroid field and there’s a lot of players over there and then I go to Port Olisar and there’s a lot of players over there and then I go over to Arccorp and there’s a lot of guys over there.
From this quote, I would expect implies that this ability to fly to these different locations and still encounter a large number of players would be a part of the 3.6 patch. While a part of me was extremely excited to hear this described, as it could mean a player cap increase at the minimum, another part is a bit skeptical that this wasn’t just Tony misspeaking.
SOCS seems like an extremely complex system that is still very much in its early stages and I fully believe we’re a long way from seeing it in game. I was just hoping that we could get a clarification on this, seeing as the quote implies we’ll be seeing this within the 3.6 patch.
Otherwise, what does everyone else think? Was it likely just a mistaken word? I’m personally extremely excited for both SOCS and Server Meshing and so am extremely excited for when those technologies are finally ready to make it into the PU, even if it’s limited in some way to keep too many players from entering the same area at once on one server.
I see how you got to where you got – however that is only due to the verbiage Tony Z used being a bit confusing. The functionality you describe is not something that will be in 3.6. Appreciate you pointing this out though so I can clarify elsewhere should this sentiment pop up again!
