Just watched the CitizenCon Audio presentation, really enjoyed it. I love the audio in the game, from ships sounds to weapons, to cave atmosphere. As a side note, I hope we get more natural sounds on the ground at some point like more bugs in the savanna. Space crickets. Anyway..My question is how do you balance the sound of really big thrusters in proximity to smaller ones? For example, if I’m standing on the ground alongside a Pisces and a Reclaimer, and they are both taking off, will the sound of the Reclaimer thrusters simply drown out the Pisces? In a more generic sense I suppose I could ask, how can you use audio to sell the size of a ship besides just cranking up the volume? Or is that it?
I would love to hear big ships just drown out everything else and be crazy loud. The irony here is I live on a fighter base and the roar of afterburners on a daily basis is actually pretty annoying but in game, I want louder!
Glad you liked the talk.
The planet audio tech was greatly improved especially for Microtech, so a lot of audio changes and improvements will come to all planets in the future. Space crickets … well … if the planet supports it (we have to ask the Lore team) then you will hear them eventually.
I know what you mean by drowning out … I have seen a Rafale display recently and it was simply impossible to talk to each other. Though how far we push that kind of realism is nothing I can really talk about. Somebody like @JoshBell-CIG however can. 🙂
