While playing last night I noted down the food and water drain with a stop watch:
- Water drain per minute: 0.46%
- Food drain per minute: 0.28%
- Water drain time from 100 to 0: 213 minutes (3.56 hours)
- Food drain time from 100 to 0: 354 minutes (5.91 hours)
This was measured over a 3 hour period, and the data points were taken at 13 different times. That is how I calcuated the drain rates. While measuring this, my character was doing light activity and a few minutes exposed to bad weather. Most of the time was delivering packages and flying around in the ship. So I am not sure how extreme conditions change the rate.
At ~10% water, the dehydration effects started to display.
Just wanted to list the rates here, I will write another post late on what I think about the rates.
Note, there appears to be a bug where there is no drain happening at all. If you experience no drain at all for a few minutes, then it is likely bugged.
Yes, there is a buffer (digestion for food and absorption for drink) that delays the nutrition/hydration meters from lowering when consuming something – you also start off with this buffer when you respawn although it is not completely full. So if you eat something or drink something you get a delay before the meter starts to drop again. This gives you a chance to eat/drink something when you are low and to get back to an LZ or your ship.
If you maxxed the meters and the buffers it would take you 7 hours to die from thirst and 10 hours to die from hunger if you stood still. Doing activities makes them drain slightly quicker.
Hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:
