I was wondering if there are any plans concerning adjusting the rotation speed of turrets depending on their size.
I just think it would feel and look silly and unrealistic to see a big turret with very large guns rotate just as fast as a smaller anti-fighter turret (up to hammerhead quad S4 turrets or something).
To make an extreme example, just to make a point: image a bengal gigantic railgun turret rotate just as fast as a anti-fighter turret…it would look ridiculous. Just think of a tank, or a ww2 battleship… big guns against other big ships/tanks, small guns and machine guns against light fast vehicles and enemy soldiers.
Also, I believe it would create more interesting gameplay if bigger turrets would rotate slower, and make the game feel more balanced. And I also believe it would make fleet composition even more interesting.
I just hope they will make big anti-ship guns actually feel like what they are: big powerful guns, and not just a larger, just as fast, version of an anti-fighter turret.
Otherwise, it would create boring ‘bigger is always better’ gameplay in my opinion, and fighters would be one shotted by supersize fast rotating anti-ship guns, which should only happen if a fighter pilot flies really stupid and predictable.
Any news, ideas, suggestions about this?
@Barthez, different rotation speeds for turrets are already on our todo list. Our first pass in 3.10 only included turrets that the players can currently control. What rotation speed each turret will have in the end depends largely on what purpose we see for it. E.g. turrets with a focus on bringing down small fighters will naturally need to rotate faster than anti-capship turrets. So it’s all in the works, just not done yet.
