Still 2017 looks better in terms of depth, you can’t see the planet’s texture in that version, cause the ground is filled with structures, in the 2019 it’s pretty obvious the buildings lie on a flat texture and that’s immersion breaking for me, I hope in the final version this won’t be noticeable
In 2017 we used literal boxes crashed together with a random texture applied for the demo as we were still figuring out how any of that was going to be built. So the suburbs look very blocky and random without any real shape or structure with the exception of the occasional low poly cylinder thrown in. We also made it quite harshly lit so you wouldn’t see the very awful texture underneath, which you can definitely see in the demo but it’s so toned down you don’t notice. Also remember the demo was made for a singular lighting scenario, whereas now the planet rotates, so we have to tackle how this looks under almost every lighting scenario possible.
